Lieutenant Jangles The Motion Picture

When making Jangles all those years ago, our goal was simple—cram in everything we loved and make it as unapologetically Australian as possible.

Back in the share house where Jangles was born and raised, we consumed a steady diet of Aussie comedy and we knew that was the level of Australiana we wanted to bring to the film.

Growing up shows like The Simpsons shaped our perception of American culture and we wanted to do the same for Aussie culture—make it just as loud, weird and iconic in media.

At the time, we were heavily influenced by creators like Friendlyjordies, Michael Cusack, and Jarrad Wright, while Danger 5 and the Full Frontal sketch "Roger Explosion" inspired the retro throwback setting we wanted to capture.

YouTube shorts like Yilmaz, Damo & Darren, and The Big Lez Show shaped the crude, chaotic and distinctly Australian humour that became the heart of Jangles.

At one point, we reached out to Michael on Facebook and got permission to use his cartoons in the movie—or at least, we hope it was actually him. One of our favourite little Easter eggs is that every TV in the Jangles universe only plays Cusack cartoons or the news.

Since then, he has become an absolute legend in animation and one of Australia’s greatest exports, with hit shows like Smiling Friends and Koala Man (which we personally love and really hope gets a Season 2).

Lieutenant Jangles is now finally available to stream on Amazon Prime Video for free, thanks to our good mates at Umbrella Entertainment

This is the final stop after nearly a decade of Jangles that started with sold out cinema screenings, multiple awards at film festivals across the globe and numerous merch drops that culminated in a SOLD OUT blu-ray run.

These guys are absolute legends! They jumped on board in the very early stages of pre-production on the film all the way back in 2013, offering up their music for us to use.

When we listened to what they sent us we all began instantly going nuts to the thumping synth driven beats and killer vocals. They basically became like the band in Terminator who everyone in the film listens to with their songs being used in very big and memorable scenes.

We still listen to their music regularly in the car and at home and we can't wait for new stuff to drop from them. Make sure you follow Becca and Dav for their individual projects as well these guys are insanely talented and it's a crime that they aren't more famous yet.

Jordy was kind enough to let us use one of his songs on the soundtrack, which then resulted in him teaming up with Italian singer Oscar for a completely original piece made just for the movie!

The result of their collaboration is the song "My Room" a dreamy synth-wave jam which plays against one of the most cinematic scenes in the movie.

A massive thanks to both Timecop and Oscar for making this gem special for us.
