Description

The series follows Cyril and Methodius, two Byzantine Greek brothers born in the 9th century. They became missionaries of Christianity and influenced the cultural development of the Great Moravian territory. They are credited with devising the Glagolitic alphabet, the first alphabet used to transcribe the Slavic language, earning them the title "Apostles to the Slavs". Cyril and Methodius were venerated by the Orthodox Church as saints "equal to apostles". Pope Leo XIII introduced a feast in their name to the religious calendar of the Roman Catholic Church and Pope John Paul II declared them co-patron saints of Europe. 2013 marks the 1150th anniversary of Cyril and Methodius which will be celebrated by Christians world-wide.
