Silver Screenings: Maudie TIFF is a charitable cultural organization with a mission to transform the way people see the world, through film.
My mother's family were survivors of this catastrophic explosion. And in 2003 the screenplay by Keith Ross Leckie was produced in Halifax. Mom didn't live to see the four hour drama but she loved and approved of the script. And producing that drama has been a pivotal experience. I made lasting friendships with Glenn Charles Warner, Ted Dykstra, Zachary Bennett and Clare Shaesgreen (who played my Mom) and I got to work with pals Bruce Pittman, Stuart French and Trysha Bakker again.....true joys to create drama with. And the series SHATTERED CITY: THE HALIFAX EXPLOSION broadcast on the once great CBC enjoyed the highest ratings to date....even more than our series THE ARROW. Proof that Canadians love to see our own stories told in world class style. Today is the 106th Anniversary of the explosion where nearly 2000 people lost their lives and another 8000 were injured and maimed. Remember those souls.
More MAUDIE in the works!
