The Redemption of Anakin Skywalker

The Redemption of Anakin Skywalker

The three-hour epic tragedy telling the story of the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker

Description

The Redemption of Anakin Skywalker is a fan edit that takes all twelve hours of the Star Wars saga - both the prequel and original trilogies - and cuts it down to one, three-hour epic movie, telling the story of the tragic rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker.

I decided to make this fan edit when I realized how incredible and moving the story of Star Wars truly is. It is not often that you see the most needed hero become the most heinous villain, not only destroying everyone's hopes for deliverance from the great evil that confronts them, but actually becoming and epitomizing that very evil. Though Anakin moves towards redemption in the end, it is a painful, tragic redemption when seen through the lens of everything that's gone on before.

There have been quite a few fan edits already, but none that take all 6 movies and make them into one. Putting everything into one film gives you the advantage of getting the full force of Anakin's story: at the beginning you see him as a child, you witness him turning into Darth Vader, you see how he destroys millions of lives, then you watch as the inherent love he has for his son takes him to a small, almost heartbreaking step towards redemption. Watching it in multiple films, you'll never feel the full impact of that amazing story.

I designed it, as much as was possible, to be a film complete in and of itself, that even someone completely unaware of Star Wars could sit down the first time and easily comprehend it and enjoy it.

The principle I used in making the edit was: does this tell Anakin or Luke's stories? Does it tell the story of Jedi v Sith? Everything else I cut. So, there's a lot cut that's really awesome that just doesn't fit into those parameters - all the side stories, a lot of action...and most regrettably, most of Han Solo. Unfortunately, I couldn't fit him in.

On the plus side, all the lightsaber battles are shown without interruption, and every scene in the film moves the central plot and theme forward. There's a lot less action, actually, but a lot more drama. Watching Star Wars like this gives it a very heavy, almost, I dare say, Shakespearean feel.

Take a look. I hope you like it.
