Description

In 1671, the Prince du Conde--deep in debt and suffering from gout--hopes to win command of the French Army. He receives word that King Louis XIV wishes to visit his estate. Du Conde asks Francois Vatel, a master chef and entertainer, to make the arrangements. However, trouble ensues when Vatel meets Anne de Montausier, a lovely courtesan and the king's new mistress, with whom Vatel falls treacherously in love.
