'Dick Tracy' was featured on the cover of the August 1990 issue of the UK sci-fi film magazine, Starburst. Other films covered besides Tracy were 'TMNT', 'Back to the Future III', & 'Total Recall'. 🇬🇧
On August 4, 1990, 'Dick Tracy' was released in Taiwan! 🇹🇼
On August 1, 1990, the 'Dick Tracy' NES game was released. Lots of memories playing this gem! I know it's not very popular but I loved it. Did you ever own or play this game?
When Pleasure Island was open at Walt Disney World, they had a Dick Tracy store that was filled with merchandise. Screen used vehicles from the film were staged outside is if there had been a mob war or battle with the police as bullets were riddled on the building!
Featured in the comments is a video briefly showing this cool store.
During the summer of 1990, Disney Parks featured a live stage show called 'Dick Tracy in Diamond Double Cross'. This 25 minute action comedy musical was just as lavish and creative as the film itself. The production team was only allowed to see a certain amount of images and music from the movie and had to create something that would be cohesive with it. This was a tough challenge as the production would open on May 21st, nearly a month before the film's release! The stage show played five times daily at Theater of the Stars at Disney-MGM Studios and Videopolis at Disneyland.
I posted the show below in the comments for those interested.
Our next stop at Disney-MGM Studios in 1990 is the beloved backlot tour. This guided trip through the making of movies featured props and costumes from numerous films but especially from Dick Tracy! During the tour, guests would be taken down the NY Street back lot set where a side street was turned into Tracy's comic strip world. Many of the costumes, props, and vehicles from the film would be on display at the park and would remain there for many years.
Down on Hollywood Blvd. at Disney-MGM Studios was Calling Dick Tracy, an attraction that allowed you to star in your own 'Dick Tracy' screen test with costumes, a set, and recorded for you to purchase on VHS. In the same building there was also a fantastic store filled with Tracy merchandise. Just look at the detail of this place! I want to live there!
Lights! Camera! Action!
We're going to Walt Disney World all this week as we look back on the 'Dick Tracy' attractions that were featured at Disney-MGM Studios during the summer of 1990! Featured here is a set of wonderful promotional photos that featured the Tracy characters at the park.
