Farewell Marianne: The obituaries for Marianne Faithfull were festooned with images from ‘Girl On A Motorcycle’ (1968) the infamous, X-rated, kaleidoscopic film she co-starred with Alain Delon, directed & photographed by Jack Cardiff. In my documentary on Jack the whole sequence on that film regrettably hit the cutting room floor but here are a few lesser known production stills with Marianne and Jack for fans. - Craig McCall

R.I.P. Alain Delon. In his numerous obituaries a film not really mentioned was the infamous and kaleidoscopic enterprise ‘Girl On A Motorcycle’ (1968) in which Alain starred with Marianne Faithfull directed by Jack Cardiff. Last week I was privileged to see a nitrate print of BLACK NARCISSUS and attend the opening of ‘THE RED SHOES: Beyond the Mirror’ exhibit at the BFI Southbank (free entrance). Both introduced by the inimitable Thelma Schoonmaker. She and Martin Scorsese have been tireless in the restoration and raising awareness of Powell & Pressburger films among many others. Along with A MATTER OF LIFE and DEATH these movies form the core of the current, nationwide BFI P&P season and all Photographed in ravishing Three-Strip Technicolor by Jack Cardiff. Please try and see them on the big screen while you can. (More news tomorrow) - Craig McCall #BFISouthbank
